On Thursday, November 19, 2015, 7:00 p.m., Restaurant Nicholas in Red Bank, New Jersey, will host its annual Holiday Walk-Around Wine Tasting.
The tasting will feature 14 “must have” wines for the 2015 holiday season. Chef/proprietor Nicholas Harary chose these selections with holiday entertaining in mind, showcasing crowed pleasing wines that complement holiday meals and cocktail events.
Hors d’oeuvres and artisanal cheese will also be served.
Domaine Gasnier Cravantine NV – A distinctive sparkling wine made from carefully grown Cabernet Franc grapes. A great aperitif for the holiday season.
Diego Bolognani Pinot Grigio 2014 – This wine is a beautiful balance of nutty, mineral, and spicy notes, with utter purity of fruit and a long, refined finish. A perfect pairing with simple pastas or fish preparations.
Giovanni Almondo Arneis Bricco delle Ciligie 2014 – Great aroma of white flowers, almonds, and a touch of sage. The mid-palate has layers of concentrated peach and citrus fruit with a mineral streak and long finish. One of Italy’s great white wines.
Juliana Layla Chardonnay Santa Maria Valley 2014 – The fruit is pure Chard, bright and vibrant. Perfect with everything, from roasted poultry to salmon on the grill. The Restaurant’s house Chardonnay.
Dutton-Goldfield Chardonnay Russian River Dutton Ranch 2013 – A classic Russian River Chard, loaded with pear and tangerine fruit with just a hint of honey and butterscotch. Perfect pairing with richer seafood and poultry.
Emrich-Schonleber Riesling Kabinett Monzinger 2014 – A clear and expressive wine, redolent of lemon, pear, and stony minerals, Ripe, rich, sweet fruit balanced by excellent acidity and minerality creates a wine that is bright on the palate yet has a viscous mouthfeel.
Chad Pinot Noir Anderson Valley 2013 – A sophisticated, classy wine, brimming with flavors of black cherry and Alpine strawberry. Delicious now, a perfect match for Thanksgiving dinner.
Domaine Louis Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Les Angles 2009 – Just hitting its stride with 6-7 years of bottle age. The wine is a wonderful blend of lovely pinot fruit and stone notes that seamlessly merge into rich and round yet delicate flavors. A classic Volnay in character.
Corzano e Paterno Chianti Terre di Corzano 2012 – This wine is intensely aromatic and concentrated with a fine texture that allows this vintage to be delicious upon release. Wonderfully food friendly; pair this Chianti with grilled food, pasta with mushrooms and pecorino cheese.
Domaine de la Citadelle Côtes du Luberon Rouge La Châtaignier 2014 – Generous and full-bodied with complex aromas and great length. A perfect everyday wine that is fresh, fruity, and completely food friendly.
Roc des Anges Côtes du Roussillon Rouge Effet Papillon 2014 – A wonderful little red with great nose of berries and concentrated, juicy fruit. On the palate, the fruit is ripe and the finish long. A particularly fine match with lamb.
Lake Sonoma Zinfandel 2012 – This 2012 Zin is full flavored yet balanced, redolent of baking spices and dark chocolate, loaded with jammy fruit with a hint of spice. A great pairing with roasted meant and harvest vegetables.
Xavier Vignon Rasteau 2012 – Made from 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre, the 2012 Rasteau offers ripe dark fruit, crushed rock, licorice, and minerality in its full-bodied, concentrated profile. Garnered 93 points from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.
Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 – The wine exhibits a classic Napa Cab nose with aromas of dark cassis and cherry mingling with spicy notes of anise, tobacco, and vanilla. On the palate, it’s filled with cocoa-laced blackberries and notes of mocha and plum. Full yet elegant on the palate, this wine will pair well with roasted meat.
